worked for me. . . but super slow. .
Fat32 was faster for me on my pc. . saving and transferring data was actually pretty quick. . but when i tried to save stuff from my mac. . it took for ever. . smh. . I wont get use to saving from my mac. . unless its small stuff. . anyways good to have this around
Now i can edit stuff on my mac. . since its easier than editing on my pc. . and more feautures
this was so helpful. . thanks C|NET
mgmtfollower: there is no difference in speed between NTFS and FAT32 when your using an external usb 2. 0 drive. (usb slows everything down) The only down side with FAT32 is that you cannot have one file larger than 4gb and file names cant be more than 16 characters long and the drive cant be more than 2TB. My 500gb external is FAT and I use it for transferring from my Mac, Linux, and Windows box with no problems
you cannot use a external drive you dumb f*** (PadroPadro22) you would have the same issue. unless you want to use fat 32 and thats slow especially with large files
Thanks a lot, this video was really helpful:)
the other option is to make a 3rd partition at fat32. windows 7 will see it and so will os x. so before you get involved with endless problems in terminal by not understanding a thing do this instead. much easier. xp wont see all the drives, but install that on a fat32 partition and you can read write on both os’s. dont know vista can but windows 7 definitely can. format you ipod in fat32 and it’ll work in both os’s too.
same in os x. old betas of snow leopard allowed read write to ntfs but it proved unstable os results, plus its illigal. this solved all problems with none of that terminal bollocks, its a pain when no one understands whats going on. also windows 7 can drag your music files from os x drive straight to itunes. thats cool and thats without any modifying.
this is the wrong way to think. download macdrive 8 for windows. and alter windows as its your second priority os in this case. windows 7 can see all the os x drives anyway but you cant copy files from it to windows.
why don’t you add all of this text to your description. . . but thanks.
Why not just download NTFS-3G driver for Mac and you got read/write on NTFS right there??
yes it works well even on snow leopard
does it work?
Why would he want to write FROM windows to HFS like he mentions at the end. The only reason to do any of this is if you just cant bare the thought of rebooting or simply using an external drive to transfer files.
its ok but i cant rename it
it works for me.
why the fuck would you do this when you can just download “NTFS for mac” by paragon
using the latest version of both apps, I was able to write the ntfs external hdd without the command lines. just restart the mac after the installation of ntfs-3g, mount the drive and it just works.
here is the info you need
The last command was word. Instead of mnt/Windows, use Volumes/Windows (like he shows in previous commands).
The last command didnt work for me, so I just went to Disk Utility and mount it again, it looks that it worked =D
This is perfectly safe
Is this actually safe though? I know that sometimes these things corrupt filesystems and stuff. I don’t want to corrupt my Windows system and a certainly don’t want to corrupt my Mac system.
GREAT thanks!!!
WOw, but what if i just want to read/write ntfs files from a portable usb hard disk drive on my mac os x?? shall i make it to mount itself as explain above on a new directory too?? i’m asking this because its a big one: 250 Gb. . . . Right now im using vmware fusion, but i would like it to be done on mac os at once. . . . Thanks!!!!
Thanks
